[REVIEW] Mizon Recovery Snail Gel Cream

Hello! Sorry for the unexpected hiatus. Vic went to a con last weekend and I was swamped with homework the week before. I’m also going to NYCC tomorrow so I’m posting this today instead of passing out on Saturday without posting. Anyway, this week’s review is on Mizon’s Snail Recovery Gel Cream! They describe it as a ‘lightweight snail gel cream containing 74% snail secretion filtrate.’ I actually used this product sort of religiously in sophomore or junior year in high school, and just got back to using it again because I got tired of buying Benton’s snail bee venom essence, which was a lot more expensive than this, when I remembered it and the Mizon gel working pretty similarly.

Mizon’s Snail Recovery Gel Cream’s ingredient list is: Snail Secretion Filtrate, Butylene Glycol, Cyclopentasiloxane, Glycerin, Bis-PEG-18 Methyl Ether, Dimethylsilane, Polysorbate2-, Sodium Hyaluronate, Carbomer, Glycosyl Trehalose, Hydrogenated Starch Hydolsyate, Triethanolamine, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Dimethicone, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Caprylyl Glyocol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Sodium Polyacrylate, Centella Asiatica Extract, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Camellias Sinensis Leaf Extract, Nelumbo Nucifera Flower Extract, Betula Platylphylla Japonica Juice, Tropolone, Copper Tripeptide-1, Allantoin, Panthenol, Olea Europaea (olive) Fruit Oil, Helianthus Annuus (sunflower) Seed Oil, Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4, Adenosine, Disodium.

It comes in a 45ml squeeze tube, which makes it a tiny bit annoying when you want to get the last amount out, but since you use only a couple pea sized globs for your problem spots/entire face it ends up lasting you a good while! And I suppose you could always do what I sometimes do, and just cut through the bottle when it gets to that point and just scoop the rest out.

I’m not sure why they call it a gel cream since it’s really just a gel, but I’ve really enjoyed using this the past years. It glides on smoothly and has no color to it, and it dries relatively quick. It also feels very cooling to me when I apply it, and I’m sure if you tried putting it in the fridge it’d be even cooler to the touch. It lives true to the lightweight claim, because it doesn't feel like anything's on your face beyond the cooling feeling you get.

Since it has such a high concentration of snail secretion, it helps speed up healing time of wounds/pimples, soothes any upcoming acne, and heals hyper pigmentation/scarring. Obviously, this last effect doesn’t work overnight but throughout the years of using both this and the benton snail bee venom, my acne scars have healed tremendously and sometimes people don’t even notice I have scarring anymore. My skin’s definitely better than it was when I first entered high school, and I really believe that a lot of it is due to the snail-based products I use now.

This is honestly a holy grail product for me because it works really well and it’s only 5$!! You can get deals for it on Ebay or Amazon for like 2 or 3 (or even more, probably) for just 10-15$. The cost of one bottle of Benton’s essence costs around 15-20$ and it only has 60ml. You can literally get three or four of the Mizon bottles and have 3x the product that comes in the Benton bottle. (I’m really sorry, I love that product, but with the Mizon one here it stopped making sense to me to buy the Benton one…)

Overall, I'd give this one a 5/5! ♥

Pros
☆ Promotes healing of scars/hyper pigmentation and works well against acne.
☆ Very affordable.
☆ Dries quickly.
☆ Clear gel, so there's no white/grey cast.
☆ Very compact and travel friendly!

Cons
☆ Squeezy tube, which makes it harder to get the last of the product out.
☆Snail based, which can be bad if you're allergic to them or you find the idea of putting snail secretion on your face icky. (Please do a swatch test if you don't know whether you're allergic or not... apparently if you're allergic to shrimp, there's a chance you might also be allergic to snails.)

I’ve repurchased this product 3 times and I’ll likely buy more of them when I run out, but that’s not going to be for a while because the last time I purchased this I bought three bottles of it... Speaking of which, I bought mine from neverprice on Ebay, who's a US seller based in New Jersey! Since it's in the US, they hiked the price a bit on the single bottle listing, though... Honestly I think it'd just be best to search for the best deal on however many you want, and make sure you check the seller's reviews beforehand!
