[REVIEW] Etude House Rosy Tint Lips - #7 Tea Rose

Hello~! Today’s review is the first in a long line of lipstick reviews I’ll be putting out.. I’ll try and switch it up and not do lipsticks every time it’s my turn, but… I’m a lipstick junkie, and I’m constantly trying out different colors or brands so I thought it’d be nice to post my thoughts on some of the ones I’ve bought.

So, without further ado, my review for today is on Etude House’s Rosy Tint Lips in #7 Tea Rose! It’s always trendy to wear darker or more muted colors in fall and winter, but I wear whatever color I really feel like wearing, no matter what time of year it is, haha. Pink is always a cute and fresh color, and I love trying out different shades of it, but sometimes it’s disheartening for me when, while it looked ridiculously cute on the paler model, it became a bit too light/pale/cool on me. And sometimes, a color will look completely fine on me when I’m wearing a full face of makeup, but when I don’t have on anything besides the lip color it looks incomplete or just a smidgen out of place.

Ingredients: DIMETHICONE, DIMETHICONE/VINYL DIMETHICONE CROSSPOLYMER, VINYL DIMETHICONE/METHICONE SILSESQUIOXANE CROSSPOLYMER, DIISOSTEARYL MALATE, DISTEARDIMONIUM HECTORITE, PENTAERYTHRITYL TETRAISOSTEARATE, PROPYLENE CARBONATE, BIS-DIGLYCERYL POLYACYLADIPATE-2, HYDROGENATED POLYISOBUTENE, KAOLIN, PHENYL TRIMETHICONE, BUTYROSPERMUM PARKII (SHEA) BUTTER, SILICA, HDI/TRIMETHYLOL HEXYLLACTONE CROSSPOLYMER, TITANIUM DIOXIDE (CI 77891), POLYGLYCERYL-2 TRIISOSTEARATE, POLYETHYLENE, EUPHORBIA CERIFERA (CANDELILLA) WAX, POLYGLYCERYL-2 DIISOSTEARATE, SYNTHETIC WAX, YELLOW 5 LAKE (CI 19140), SILICA, DEXTRIN PALMITATE, POLYGLYCERYL-2 TRIISOSTEARATE, RED 33 LAKE (CI 17200), POLYGLYCERYL-2 TRIISOSTEARATE, FRAGRANCE, PHENOXYETHANOL, POLYHYDROXYSTEARIC ACID, RED 7 LAKE (CI 15850), DIMETHICONE, DEHYDROACETIC ACID, GLYCERYL CAPRYLATE, POLYGLYCERYL-2 TRIISOSTEARATE, LITHOSPERMUM ERYTHRORHIZON ROOT EXTRACT, ROSA DAMASCENA FLOWER OIL, IRON OXIDES (CI 77491), POLYGLYCERYL-2 TRIISOSTEARATE, POLYHYDROXYSTEARIC ACID
What it claims:
  • Petal texture like velvet: Creamy texture like rich color matte lipstick melted. Softly covers lips to express attractive rosy colors with velvet-matte finish.
  • Sponge tip applied: Round-shape sponge tipe for a gradation lip makeup and detailed full cover.
  • Tube type: Tube container to adjust amount easily.
  • Various colors: 8 different color variation to express from natural to fascinating lips.

That’s my dilemma when it comes to pink lip colors… and the latter is what happened with this one. It’s a really pretty pink, especially when swatched on the arm, but it transfers a little differently on two-tone lips. Due to the underlying purple-brown-ish tint of my top lip, it becomes a bit cooler and not as true to color as it is on my lower lip. This color also really needs to be put on the entire lip if you’re similar in color to me and you don’t want to put concealer on underneath it, because if you try and gradient it, it might just look like your lip color but a little bit better when blended out. My advice is to use a pink lip liner on the portions of your lips that aren’t so pink, and then apply it on top. For this one, I used the Etude House Soft Touch Auto Lipliner; I’m pretty sure this one is #1 Soft Rose? But it doesn’t have the number on the actual packaging. This is one of the lipliners I reach for a lot, and it’s a similar color to the lip tint (It’s also another Etude product and I totally have to stay on brand for this review).

The texture of this is definitely more like a lipstick than a tint, especially when you see how opaque it gets, which...is confusing when you put the name and idea of it next to each other. But, either way, it’s a nice mousse-like texture, and comes with this squeezy tube packaging that has a sponge around the opening to help application when you want a gradient effect. I feel like this sucks up a bit of product and isn’t very precise if you want to do anything that isn't a gradient, so I just twist off the opening every time I go to apply it. (Which kind of defeats the point of their saying that the sponge can be used for "detailed full cover.")

It’s not necessarily drying, but it’s not hydrating either, and definitely accentuates any fine lines or cracked skin you have on your lips. It’s best to exfoliate and moisturize your lips beforehand. You also probably shouldn't put on too much of it, because then whenever you eat it's just gonna wipe off onto whatever you’re eating or drinking. This really doesn't last long after you start eating, so if you wanted to wear this all day you have to be prepared to touch up after every meal.

(Kiss mark test. The swatch next to it is the Etude House Auto Liner.)

Overall, I'm giving this a 3/5! It's not a bad product, it's just not my favorite, since I'm not very fond of having to touch up and needing to prep my lips much beforehand. I think if I tried it in another color, I might like it more, so maybe I'll pick up After Blossom some other time.

Pros
☆ Pigmented.
☆No smell as far as I can tell.
☆Variety of colors to choose from.
☆Can last up to quite a few hours if you don't eat.

Cons
☆ Wipes off/doesn't last long after eating.
☆ The sponge applicator isn't really good for anything besides gradient looks, and has to be cleaned if you want it to stay hygienic.
☆ Lip prep required beforehand if you don't want to potentially accentuate any dry patches on your lips when you apply it, especially if you use the sponge tip.

I'm not sure if I’d repurchase this shade in particular, but I’d be willing to try out the more vibrant shades that would be more ideal for the gradient idea that comes with this concept. Anyway, I bought this from f2plus1, who sells it for $7.36!
